When early New Zealand cartoonist Rita Angus grew frustrated with her career in commercial illustration her sister Jean Angus assumed her role at the Press Junior magazine in 1937 providing illustrations and cartoons, of which she remarked, "I didn't take long to do the Press Junior drawings. I did them at home. I remember once at least going to a 'bob hop' dance at the students union and doing a drawing when I got home."
