Albert de Vine illustrated issue of the John Dixon created Crimson Comet. Albert de Vine also work on Australian created comics based on theW. E. Johns' characters Biggles and Gimlet. I know John Dixon produced some issues of Biggles, I'm not sure if he ever worked on Gimlet.
The Crimson Comet No. 18 (Part One) - John Dixon
The long running The Crimson Comet series by Australian cartoonist John Dixon ran seventy three issues in the first series and a second volume of a further eighteen. Fellow writer/artist Albert de Vine succeeded Dixon on the comic with Dixon returning to the series in the 1950's. Only Dixon's prior comic Tim Valour exceeded The Crimson Comet's output with one hundred and fifty issues over three series. The Crimson Comet features Dixon's strong use of spotted blacks which were particularly prevalent in the wartime atmosphere of his Biggles work and the first two issues he later drew of The Phantom Commando. I'll share examples of that work next week.
British reprints of Australian Biggles Comics
Biggles comics created in Australia initially by John Dixon and subsequently by Albert De Vine were reprinted in England by Stratos Publications Ltd during the 1950's. These reprints of the quintessentially English character of Biggles were packaged into 68 page collections with John Dixon's original Australian creations Tim Valour and The Crimson Comet filling up the pages alongside another of Albert De Vine's Australian comics works Gimlet who was also created by Biggles creator W. E Johns.
