Sydney cartoonist George Aria was a regular contributor from the first issue of the ABC Weekly published 2 December 1939. As well as his regular silent comic strip Mr Tutt he produced gag cartoons and illustrations.

Selection of gag cartoons by prolific Australian cartoonist Les Such as featured in the ABC Weekly’s first month of publication. Despite their printing at a much smaller scale than as featured here, these cartoons all bristle with movement, a common element of Such’s deft brushwork.
