Joe Jonsson (1890 – 1963) Uncle Joe's Horse Radish
Nils Josef Jonsson, originally from Sweden and via a few years in New Zealand, settled in Australia in 1918. He became a prolific Australian cartoonist working for Smith’s Weekly from 1924 until it closed in 1950. Jonsson was best known for Uncle Joe’s Horse Radish which appeared in colour for many of the years it ran (1951 - 1963) and was syndicated across Australia. This strip featured in the Christmas Sun Children’s Supplement of 1954.
Ida Rentoul Outhwaite - Benjamin Bear
A two panel comic, Benjamin Bear by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite as featured in Melbourne newspaper the Weekly Times from 18 February 1933 until 2 September 1939. Unceremoniously Benjamin Bear was replaced mid story by American export Tim Tyler. This instalment is from July 10th 1937.

First seven weeks of Over the Fence by Syd Miller as featured in the ABC Weekly from it’s first issue published 2nd December 1939. The ABC Weekly was published from 1939 until 1959 and featured a wealth of Australian cartoonists during it’s publication history.
